X-TOPIA: A Digital World
VIII. AI/ RESEARCH
IX. POP CULTURE
Our relationship with technology is fraught with ambiguity, and only the rear view mirror of history will reveal the ultimate fate of the human Anthropocene. Without knowing if the propagation of emergent technology will result in a techno-dystopia or techno-utopia, perhaps a constructive middle ground can be embraced? Let us call that intersection, X-TOPIA.
Referencing the outsize influence and unchecked market dominance of Big Tech, this 10 part collage series entitled X-topia depicts utopian visions alongside the dystopian effects of rapid and unbridled technological expansion. Channelling the spirit of Archizoom, Superstudio & OMA through a smartphone device, the collage series illustrates current trends and future speculations, while serving as a cautionary tale.
